Eliza refused to give him a key to the house despite his age, and would regularly stay up waiting for his return. This caused Eliza's sister, Frances Evelyn to "have words" to rectify the situation. Apparently, Eliza would likely have been very upset to learn that her husband would change their agreed will after her death (to exclude their grandson, David).
